Coal: Abundant, Affordable and Ours

Coal is one of America's dominant sources of energy.  Almost 40 percent of the energy we use to keep our lights on, charge our cell phones and power all of the other technology we use every day, comes from coal-fueled power plants.

Coal is America’s fuel. American coal is mined in 25 states and responsible for over 760,000 U.S. jobs.  With our current coal reserves, the U.S. is capable of meeting domestic demand for roughly 290 years.

Our most abundant natural resource is more than just a power source.  It’s a key component for the steel, paper, cement and plastics industries, as well as being used to produce activated carbon which is used in water purification and carbon fibers which help make fuel cells and electronic devices.
